Lucky Ones (Reprise) (Larry Hoppen) Singles Released (none) Reviews from PERFORMING SONGWRITER May/June 1997: The UnHerd is the brainchild of Larry Hoppen, a founding member of Orleans who sang their biggest hits: "Still the One", "Dance With Me", 'Love Takes Time" etc. This project includes Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel), keyboardist/co-producer David Sancious (Sting, Springsteen) and drummer Terry Silverlight. All sales proceeds and 100% of Larry's publishing royalties are donated to Sunshine For HIV Kids Inc., a non-profit organization founded by Hoppen and his wife Patricia in 1993. Fans of Orleans will be glad to know that Hoppen's soulful tenor has lost none of its sheen over the years. Hoppen states his case with the opener, "One of the Lucky Ones", a finger-snapping Memphis shuffle. "I Wanna Be In Love" states another case just as plainly, but with a more modern pop-rock groove. The title track is a gorgeous poignant ballad. Hoppen's vocal arrangements will have folks who dig those sounds of the 70s in pop heaven. There are also fine covers of both the Beatles' "No Reply": and Todd Rundgren's "Pretending to Care". "Poison Rain" laments the ecological suicide we've committed in the Industrial Age, while "Circles" is a straightforward love song with dreamy vocals and sax flourishes. Good music and a great cause. That's enough reason to go Looking For The Light. ****A wonderful collection of thoughtful and powerful compositions and covers of Lennon/McCartney's 'No Reply' and Todd Rundgren's "Pretending to Care". **** As a fan of Orleans since the 70's, I continue to enjoy and be enriched by Larry's music...he is truly one of the most talented musicians and composers of our generation. Each song is attractive for a different reason..some cases heartwarming, in others encouraging and motivating. History & Interesting Facts 1. Additional musicians: Rob Leon: bass on Looking For The Light & Keep On Shining, Jim Campagnola: Saxophones. Backing Vocals: Lance Hoppen, Bob Leinbach, Terry Pinkham, Tim Lawless, Billy Squier, Cornelius Bumpus, Anne Lang, Jeff Pinkham, David Sancious. 2. "Looking For The Light" CD sales and 2/3 of the publishing income is donated to Sunshine For HIV Kids, Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps HIV kids and their families. "Their mission is to promote awareness of, raise funds for and generally support those organizations which deliver direct quality care to children living with HIV and their families. We do this with musical events (concerts), products (a world class CD), collection and donation of celebrity items for auctions, gifts of money, advice to others on producing fundraiser concerts, various referrals and facilitation of relevant requests. For example, we were the recipient of a baby's quilt donated by a Girl Scout who wanted it to go to an HIV-positive baby. The quilt was turned over to Hudson Valley ARCS and they followed through with this very meaningful gift. On other occasions, the respective winners of free passes to Disney World and a Fitness Center asked us to see that they went to children well enough to use them. We provide free entertainment at Camp sessions whenever possible, also." (Sunshine For HIV Kids) This wonderful organization was founded in 1992 by Larry and his wife Patricia. You can visit the official website of Sunshine For HIV Kids at www.sunshinesite.com. 3. Fans of Orleans' album One Of A Kind will appreciate this CD as it includes updated versions of the songs "Give Into It", "Circles" and a duet with Terry Pinkham on the song "Keep On Shining". 4. Looking For The Light also includes the Larry Hoppen/Artie Traum song "Poison Rain" which appeared on the hard to find 1991 CD Orleans Live which was released in Japan only , and the virtually impossible to find 1993 Orleans Live Volume 2 which was released in the U.S.
